Mullein

Mullein, Verbascum thapsus is a medicinal weed. It has oval-lanceolate shaped, light grayish-green, fuzzy leaves that resemble bunny ears, with bright yellow flowers growing on a stalk. It can grow up to 6 feet tall. The Catawba, Delaware, and Cherokee tribes made a syrup from Mullein’s leaves to soothe throats and relieve coughs. It relieves pain, muscle spasms, and can heal wounds. It is antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and can alleviate symptoms of tuberculosis. Mullein expels mucus and phlegm from the body. It is supportive of the respiratory and nervous systems.
